The Fruit of Self-Destruct..

This week I will be focusing on the fruits of the Spirit with the kids. We began yesterday with an introduction to Galatians 5:22-23. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control." There are some excellent activities to do with younger kids to help them understand what they learn. Repetition is also something that works well. Because we pray the Lords prayer out loud at the table together when we eat, even my 3 year old knows the entire thing, because it is repeated consistently. We started off with me reading the verse a few times. The night before, I printed and laminated some fruit of the Spirit bingo cards. Here is a link to the printable cards. (Printable Bingo Cards)They loved playing this game. Because each fruit of the Spirit has an actual picture of a fruit above the word, it didn't take long for the kids to start remembering the names of the fruits of the Spirit:
Strawberries of Love
Cherries of Joy
Grapes of Peace
Bananas of Patience
Peach of Kindness
Apple of Goodness
Lemon of Faithfulness
Pear of Gentleness
Watermelon of Self-Control
It will take some time to learn the correct names, because right now the Pear of Gentleness is called "the Pear of Gentlemen", and the Watermelon of Self-Control is called "the Watermelon of Self- Destruct".
Like I said..Repetition is key. :)
